RSS Subscriber Addictions

With the fairly recent RSS subscriber contest that John Chow and Jeremy Shoemaker had it got me researching ways to get RSS subscribers. Seeing some of the numbers that people like John Chow have really inspires me to get to work and get my RSS subscribers! So during my research, I found tons of goodies:

  • I’ve noticed a few posts on faking your RSS feed subscriber count. I’d say this is a great way to lose all your credibility fast because people will find out and eventually you will get called out. It appears though that the webmaster community may be adopting RSS feed counts as the next method of determining a website’s value since the “fall of PR”. We’ll see how this all turns out in the future.
  • Caroline Middlebrook sure knows her RSS stuff from this post that I read on her blog. Basically, all she did (yeah, ALL she did, like I’m implying that it was easy — I’m sure it was a lot of work but work that was well worth it!) was create some great content and put it in front of the right people.
  • Once you have subscribers, you need to make sure that they read your posts. Sometimes just getting the subscriber might not be enough especially if they have a lot of other blogs in their RSS reader. You need to make yor post stand out from the rest. …sometimes you only have a title to work with too because that might be all that is in the reader before they click to read it. Make those titles count!!
If you like what you are reading, why not subscribe to th RSS feed and get the updates as soon as they happen! Click here to subscribe.
